Web Developer
JOB SUMMARY
Rational Acoustics is seeking a talented, self-driven full stack web developer to join our small, but mighty, team and quickly take ownership of all existing integrated web systems including a custom software license management website with payment processing, and a Shopify e-commerce store and company website. The right person will have the knowledge and experience to look at our web stack holistically and craft a roadmap to enhance and expand our back-end and front-end systems in preparation for future growth.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Software licensing website administration and application development
- Develop and maintain an updated software license management website using a modern framework that encompasses our business needs
- Develop back-end administration and front-end user interface features as needed
- Manage license databases
- Create custom SQL reports
- Resolve crashes, application bugs, and other issues that arise
- Shopify website and online store development and maintenance
- Develop and maintain Rational Acoustics company website and online store in Shopify Plus, ensuring user-friendliness, visual appeal, and optimization for performance
- Integrate 3rd party Shopify apps to support various business functions in sales, marketing, customer service, fraud managment and others
- Develop and maintain back-end integrations with inventory & accounting systems to exchange order, inventory, product, and payment related data to/from Shopify
- Stay up-to-date with the latest Shopify features, best practices, and industry trends to ensure the delivery of efficient solutions
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in Sales & Marketing and IT to ensure smooth operation of our e-commerce platform
- Develop, support, and maintain interop systems between Shopify store and software licensing website
- Manage Stripe, or other payment processor, integration development and maintenance
- Prioritize feature requests and maintenance tasks based on business requirements
- Make suggestions for improvement and new features and functionalities to enhance back-end administrative experience and front-end user experience.
- Research and stay up-to-date on industry web standards, emerging technologies, UX/UI design/philosophy, and accessibility standards.
- Ensure web systems compliance with data privacy and other consumer protection legislation and regulations
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and 5+ years of professional experience OR equivalent work experience
- Expert at developing and maintaining full-stack web applications in a modern framework such as Ruby on Rails, ASP.NET, Angular.JS, etc.
- Experience with:
- Any modern WAF (ASP.NET, Ruby on Rails, Angular.JS)
- Familiarity with Classic ASP / Visual Basic Script + ActiveX Components
- Git version control
- HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (Node.js, React)
- PHP
- Microsoft SQL Server
- Shopify Development/Customization
- AWS
- Cloudflare
- RESTful APIs
- Relational database management systems
- Payment system APIs (Stripe, etc)
- Legacy web systems
- Understanding of CS principles and software design patterns
- Shopify development experience is a plus
- Classic ASP/IIS experience is a plus
- Understanding of UI/UX principals and proficiency with UI/UX design in Figma or other design tools preferred
- Desire and aptitude to learn new technologies
- Independent / self-driven worker with excellent time management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
- Comfortable working on small teams
- Comfortable working in a kid-friendly and dog-friendly, casual environment
SALARY & BENEFITS
The Web Developer position is a salaried, exempt position. Salary is in the $90-$110K per year range, based on qualifications, geographic location (if remote) and prior experience.

LOCATION
Our strong preference is for this to be an in-house position at our offices in beautiful, bucolic Woodstock, Connecticut. Relocation assistance for the perfect candidate may be possible. We are also open to a hybrid, or remote, work arrangement for the right person. Remote candidates must be based in the United States, preferably in the Northeast, and willing to travel to company HQ in CT at least quarterly.
